The Third is the First

Prince Charming and I talked about having more kids. While we started out as an 'insta-family', having a child together would change the dynamic of the house. Still, we knew we wanted more, although, we didn't realize that it would happen so quickly. It turns out, our wedding night was more magical than I thought.

I found out I was pregnant in January of 2000. I prayed and prayed that this pregnancy would “stick”. I had just gone through a miscarriage in November, and I was still recovering from that loss.

My hopes were almost crushed, when at 20 weeks, I went to the hospital having a few minor contractions. It turned out, I was in pre-term labor! The doctor put in a circlage and ordered me to bed rest. Bed rest?!! No way! Not with 2 young children at home to take care of.

Everything did work out. My mother-in-law stayed with us for a few weeks, and that was probably harder than labor. We even sent the two older kids to stay with their new Aunt and Uncle on the farm for two weeks! We all got through it just fine.

We ended up having to induce labor at 39 weeks, and had a healthy 6 pound 5 ounce baby girl! She quickly turned into a Daddy's Girl, and showed signs of genius from the start, staying 3 to 6 months ahead of the curve.

Just finishing her year in Kindergarten, she is as spunky as ever at 6 years old. She is at the top of her class, always helping others, working to be a leader, and is almost as competitive as her father! Always mischievous and planning her next move. The next twelve years are going to be a blast with this one!

How to tell if your child
is a Genius!

From an early age, watch for:

1. Language development - use of big words, sentences, and an
attraction to reading and being read to.

2. Curiosity - while it may drive you nuts, know that they get into things and
make messes to discover how things feel, sound, and work.

3. Memory - an understanding of today and tomorrow, recall of facts,
    figures, stories, songs.

4. Learning - quick grasp of complex concepts and extended instructions.

5. Friends - an easy-going manner with other children is common, but so is
isolationism, and the creation of 'imaginary' friends.

Nurturing your child, regardless of their 'genius' status, is crucial. Reinforce their talents, creations, songs, and intelligence even more than their cuteness. When you build the idea and make the declaration, they automatically start to live up to it - after all, they get their identity from YOU!
